Brown-Banded Roaches

Nuisance

What it is

Small cockroaches with pale bands across the wings or abdomen. They prefer warmer, drier areas than German cockroaches and may infest upper cabinets, furniture, electronics, bedrooms, and offices.

How to recognize it

Small tan roaches with two pale bands across the wings or body. Egg cases may be glued under furniture.

Where you will find it

Warm, drier spots away from the kitchen: upper cabinets, closets, behind picture frames, electronics, and bedrooms.

Why it matters

They spread on furniture and belongings and are easy to miss because they are not tied to water.

What to do

  1. Clean up food crumbs and grease, wash dishes promptly, and store food, including pet food, in airtight containers.
  2. Wipe up standing water and report leaky pipes or damp areas.
  3. Note and photograph where you see roaches, such as near drains, behind appliances, or under sinks.
  4. Contact a licensed pest professional before trying any home remedy. Store-bought products can scatter roaches and make professional treatment harder.
